Libreville (Gabonese Republic), August 23, 2023– The Representative of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS) in Burundi and to the ICGLR Jean Jacques Démafouth succeeds Mrs. Ruffina Mango Obone to the post of Representative of the ECCAS Commission to the African Union Commission and Head of the ECCAS Liaison Office to the African Union.
This promotion comes less than a month after Mrs. Ruffina Mangue Obone announced on July 24 that she would be leaving her post, in response to her country’s recall to serve in other functions.
At the swearing-in ceremony, Mr. Démafouth swore and promised to serve the Community loyally and not to receive any injunction from any country or individual outside the Community.
Receiving the oath of office, the President of the ECCAS Commission, His Excellency Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo , said the appointment was the crowning achievement of the good work done by the former Central African Defense Minister, Mr. Démafouth, and a renewal of confidence.
Following the swearing-in ceremony, which took place before an audience of Commissioners, the Accounting Officer, the Financial Controller, directors, advisers and heads of department, the President of the Commission urged all staff to work towards the success of the events marking the 40th anniversary of the creation of ECCAS. ECCAS was created on October 18, 1983 in Libreville, Gabon.
