Libreville (Gabonese Rep.), August 21, 2023 – After more than ten years of loyal service at the head of the Force Multinationale de l’Afrique Centrale (FOMAC) headquarters, Brigadier General Daniel Raimundu Savihemba (Angolan national) hands over to Major General Audace NDUWUMUNSI.
The senior Burundian officer was sworn in as the new Regional Chief of Staff of FOMAC in the presence of the Commissioners, the Accounting Officer, the Financial Controller, the Internal Auditor, the Advisors, Directors and Heads of Department of the ECCAS Commission and the Commissioner General for Regional Integration of the Gabonese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Blaise Placide Olouba.
The oath was received by the President of the ECCAS Commission, Ambassador Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo. A close associate of Burundian President Évariste Ndayishimiye, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans, the Major General who succeeds Angolan Daniel Raimondo Savihemba has risen through the ranks of the Burundian army.
With a background in managing multinational organizations, in the 2010s he was deputy commander of the African Union’s mission in Somalia, Amisom, now replaced by a transitional structure, Atmis. Prior to this, he was Head of Logistics (G4) at the General Staff of Burundi’s National Defense Force, before being appointed Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of National Defense and Veterans.
After the swearing-in ceremony, the President of the ECCAS Commission, through a group of experts, issued instructions and practical modalities to be observed during the electoral period in order to protect against any excesses or abuses, wherever they may come from.
