Workshop to validate the national strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) and Cameroon’s action plan, aligned with the Sendai Framework.

As part of the activities of the Environment, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Rural Development Department of the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), the Republic of Cameroon has been chosen by ECCAS and its partners to host November 10 to 11, 2020, the National Strategy for Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) validation workshop and its action plan.
The event is placed under the high patronage of the Minister of Territorial Administration, in charge of Disaster Risk Management (GRC).
The workshop is organized with the financial support of the ACP-EU Program for the Prevention of Risks linked to Natural Disasters “Building resilience to natural hazards in regions, countries and communities in sub-Saharan Africa”, managed by the Global Facility for Disaster Risk Reduction and Recovery from the World Bank.
The main objective is to develop and align national DRR strategies with the Sendai Framework in accordance with the African Action Program, the Central Africa strategy and action plan, in at least five (05) Member States of the ECCAS.
This event brought together in Yaoundé nearly 40 participants from various backgrounds: ministries, local authorities, NGOs, as well as international organizations in charge of Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) issues.
This Workshop was officially opened by Mrs. Mariatou YAP, Director of Civil Protection, also newly elected Secretary General of the International Organization of Civil Protection, Representative of the Minister of Territorial Administration of the Republic of Cameroon, HE Mr. ATANGA NJI Paul.
This speech was preceded by that of Mr. Semingar NGARYAMNGAYE, Regional Coordinator of the Disaster Risk Management and Climate Change Adaptation Unit, representing ECCAS.
