Russia / ECCAS: the new ambassador presented his letter of credentials to ECCAS

Libreville (Gabonese Rep.), November 13, 2020-The new Ambassador of the Russian Federation to the Gabonese Republic, His Excellency Ilias F. Iskandarov presented this morning the letter of credentials which accredits him to the Commission of the Economic Community of Central African States (ECCAS), to the President of the ECCAS Commission, His Excellency Gilberto Da Piedade Verissimo.
After the solemn part of the ceremony, the two interlocutors exchanged on the future of cooperation relations between ECCAS and the Russian Federation.
The Russian diplomat congratulated the President of the ECCAS Commission on his appointment as head of the sub-regional organization and expressed the hope that cooperation between Russia and ECCAS could increase in all fields. He referred to the first Russia – Africa summit held in Sochi in October 2019 with the participation of representatives of leading African regional economic organizations, as a high point of reference in the history of their cooperation. Ilias F. Iskandarov wanted the next forum to be held in 2022 to be organized with the full involvement of Africa. He then referred to the bilateral relations that Russia maintains with the member states of ECCAS and magnified the cooperation between the Russian Federation and the Republic of Angola. “… we hope that your appointment at the head of ECCAS will strengthen an already healthy cooperation between Russia and Angola, on the one hand, and Russia and ECCAS, on the other hand”, insisted the diplomat Russian.
Taking the floor, the President of the ECCAS Commission thanked the Russian Minister of Foreign Affairs, His Excellency Mr. Sergei Lavrov for his interest in ECCAS by accrediting an ambassador there. He then expressed his gratitude to Russia for the important support it gives to the Central African Republic for the consolidation of peace and security.
“ECCAS supports Russia’s contribution to the CAR”, underlined the President of the Commission of ECCAS and hoped that the latter take an active part in the work of the meeting that ECCAS intends to organize in January or February 2021 with technical and financial partners.
The President of the Commission then outlined the expectations of ECCAS with respect to its Russian partner in the implementation of projects on education and training of executives, on the construction of communication infrastructure and on exchanges. information useful for the development of community space. He informed his host of the upcoming move to the new headquarters of ECCAS.
The two interlocutors promised to meet regularly to discuss issues of common interest. They expressed their willingness to tirelessly contribute to strengthening cooperative relations between Central Africa and the Russian Federation.
